You Don't Have to Be in Pain

Pain sucks! Trust me I know. I suffered with a pain in the neck for years, until I choose to change that.

Pain is there to tell us that something is not right, bringing our attention to changes that need to be made in our life.

I hear many say, I am just getting old, or this is just the way it is.

However, it isn’t just getting old or just the way it is. That is a mind set, an alternate reality that has been created by others and your thoughts. Yes there will be some aches and pain as you get older, but it doesn’t have to define your abilities.

Many clients come in with a glimmer of hope that someone out there can help them with their journey to healing their body.

The body can heal!

We have to choose to give it the resources it needs to heal. Those resources are Thinking, Breathing, Hydration, Nutrition, Sleep and Movement.

Once the body has a balance of these things it can then start the healing process.

Sometimes help from out side those 6 foundational principles is very helpful and can give you a head start and a break the pain cycle. Then, when combined with the 6 foundational principles, a miracle happens and the body heals. It is definitely a process, a commitment that takes dedication. It doesn’t happen over night and it takes working on these principles every day in order to help the body heal. It also takes personal responsibility and realizing that you must take care of yourself and give yourself what you need.

You don’t HAVE to be in pain.

You can CHOOSE to listen to your pain and ask yourself:

“Are the things I am doing working well for me right now?”

“What am I lacking in my life and how can I make life affirmative changes that will benefit my health and the way I feel?”

The life affirmative changes are usually simple, Most of the time we look for new methods, drugs, and some kid of short cut.

It isn’t easy, in fact, it is a challenge! So, choose to listen to your pain and ask yourself:

  • Are my thoughts harmful or helpful?

  • Am I breathing?

  • Am I drinking enough water?

  • Am I Eating nutritious foods?

  • Am I getting enough sleep and rest?

  • Am I getting the right amount of movement during the day?

It seems like a lot to think about, but these are the 6 Foundations of health that our body needs to heal.

Remember you Don’t HAVE to be in Pain, we have come to earth to live our highest possible potential! When you are in pain all you can thinking about is PAIN!

In 2018 my neck was bothering me so much. It took me one whole year to get it to the point it wasn’t bothering me.

Here is what I have learned.

The 12 years before 2018 I was so focused on building my practice and helping people. Also, I was young and did not feel the need to take care of myself. I was working out, running, and doing massage. But then the weight of responsibility and over commitment crept up on me and suddenly, I was feeling jealous of my clients getting sessions and wishing that I would be able to get worked on.

I was not taking the time to nourish my needs and my desires. I was so wrapped up in caring for everyone else that I wasn't taking time for myself.

So, I had to sit down and get clear with what I needed. At that time, I was in pain, so working on others was challenging. I used the resources that I had, I received massage, chiropractic and acupuncture for quite some time. I had to get a clear understand of the simple things that I needed. I realized that bread and wheat was causing inflammation that was feeding my neck pain. Along with the weekly weekend ice cream celebration which was also causing inflammation and increasing the pain in my neck.

Food was not being my medicine, it was aiding my pain. So, I started to eliminate those things and started eating better foods that would nourish my body.

I also wasn't drinking enough water. In-fact, I was a functioning dehydrated individual. I learned that the joints are where the body first takes the water from when the body becomes dehydrated. So I start focusing on my hydration and increasing my water intake. It was amazing the difference that it had in my neck.

I implemented a mobilization, stretch and corrective exercise plan that I had some help in developing based off of an assessment that had been taken. At the end of my 45 min work out session I would feel energized, and my body felt organized. I could feel that my head was over my shoulders and my muscles were engaged holding me in my best posture. This made a huge difference in the way my neck felt. To me it was amazing what a well thought out exercise program could do to help my body heal! Especially when done consistently.

Sleep, now that was a big one for me, for year I neglected it, getting anywhere from 3-6 hours max of sleep a night. I very rarely got more than that. I realized that neck pain is a symptom of too little sleep. I was doing so manny things to sabotage my sleep. Like eating late, watching tv late at night, staying on my phone. I needed to make some changes. I started by focusing on a bed time which was 10-11 pm. Then I focused on eating earlier and then not snacking after that. These little changes have made big impacts on the way I feel in the morning and through out the day.

Lastly, I had to get my mind on the same side. Reading things that inspired me, watching things that inspired me, and speaking in ways that inspired me. I needed to regain my confidence in my self and develop an understanding of what my dreams and goals are in life.

“I live a happy, health and wholesome and inspire others to live a happy, healthy and wholesome life!”

When we have a dream big enough, no obstacles will get in the way. This is my true north. It is something I remind my self of every day. This helps me to refocus on what is important in my life and drives the choices I make.

The 6 foundational principles for health are an important piece of the healing equation and when they are left out, it is like sitting on a 2-legged stool. It is hard to balance on a two legged stool.
