What is leg, ankle and foot pain?
If the feet hurt, the whole body hurts. The feet absorb shock from every step we take and distribute it to the rest of the body. A structural abnormality in the foot can cause stress all the way up the leg and into the back. The lower extremity can be viewed as a set of building blocks, one on top of another each dependant on the stability of the lower. When one does not function correctly every block is in danger of failing. These blocks are your foot and leg bones and they are all important in their relationship and function to one another. Something goes wrong then pain and dysfunction occurs throughout the entire limb.
Some dysfunctions of the leg, ankle and foot could be: excessive inversion or eversion, morton’s toe, Metatarsalgia, Metatarsal Stress Fracture, Turf Toe, Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, toe tendinitis, bunions, Hamstring Strains, short leg syndrome, Quadriceps Strains, Sprained ankles, Anterior leg compartment syndrome and shin splints.
How does Paths in Healing address leg, ankle and foot pain?
A thorough assessment and full body charting is done to see how the body is opposing gravity. The pelvis is also thoroughly measured to determine if it is in balance in its relationship to the lower limbs. Balancing of the pelvis is critical to any other dysfunction to the lower limb. If we left an unbalanced hip then it will only contribute to chronic pain and dysfunction.
After the hip is balanced, the extremities are worked and balanced. Finally the actual pain is addressed, proper range of motion and proper flexibility is restored. Home exercises are reviewed and given to client to ensure progress between sessions.
