What is knee pain?
Knee pain could be any of the following dysfunctions: Sprained knee, Pain from the Illiotibial Band, Torn Cartilage, or any injury to the anterior or posterior ligament. Because of its exposure, the knee is susceptible to blows from the side which can cause damage by rotating or twisting the knee. Likewise if a person’s balance or posture changes the knee can be thrown out of balance causing the knee to have to dissipate forces that are not common to the knee. This could lead to wear and tear of the knee joint. Over time the knee can become inflamed, stiff and painful.
How does Paths in Healing address knee pain?
To be effective in treating knee pain one must look at the overall posture or balance of the client. Therefore we start by a careful assessment and charting of the client. Balancing of the pelvis is critical as well as balancing all the muscles that cross the knee joint. The proper soft tissue work is done to release the tight muscles. Correct strengthening exercises are encouraged and taught to the client to strengthen weak muscles. All movements are done in correct postural alignment to assure that compensatory motion patterns do not manifest in the body during rehabbing the injury.
